The African HIV in Prisons Partnership Network

The African HIV in Prisons Partnership Network (AHPPN) proposes to be the lead organisation for advocacy and international, national and multi-sectoral cooperation and action, to support Governments in their efforts to mount effective, human rights based response to HIV in prisons in Africa. Membership is aimed at representatives of National AIDS Councils, Correctional Administrators and Correctional Health Professionals, Government and Public Policy Officials, Public Health Administrators and Professionals, Law Enforcement Agencies, civil society organisations, researchers, relevant professional organisations, prisoners and former prisoners, and people living with HIV.

The Network's the main objective is to encourage cooperation and establish integrated work between prison and correctional services, health prison systems, public health systems, international and national nongovernmental and civil society organisations to promote good prison and public health and to promote good HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment in prison.

The AHPPN website is the electronic portal of the wider Network and is geared towards promoting information sharing and ideas generation across the continent to achieve an integrated multi-sectoral approach to HIV and AIDS prevention, care, treatment and support strategies in prison settings in Africa. Members are able to upload and access relevant report, network with users across Africa, view current news on HIV in prisons, view core statistics, and much more.
